The human or UNSC ships don't have shields, which is what makes them most vulnerable to the covenant ships. If I recall, the MAC on the Pillar of Autumn was modified to shoot 3 smaller shots in rapid succession, as opposed to a larger single round like most of the human ships. The Halcyon class like most Human warships has a single magnetic acceleration cannon or MAC (mac, yes they throw in a lot of references to the game developer's past), and I think it also has 6 Archer or Arrow missile batteries.
